The Department of Research and Publication Activities was established on July 1, 2004 under the name “Department of Document Publication”. As of January 1, 2020, it has its current name.
According to the Regulations on the Department, its main tasks are:
- defining the main directions and analyzing the archive’s work on scientific research and document publication, preparing proposals for their improvement;
- scientific research and publication of documents and other scientific works for the benefit of society for scientific, popular science, cultural, educational, educational and socio-legal purposes;
- studying advanced domestic and foreign experience in the field of scientific research and document publication, its implementation in the practice of the department, archive;
- development of scientific topics and regulatory and methodological support for work on document publication.
The department in accordance with the assigned tasks:
- prepares proposals for draft programs, long-term and current plans for the archive’s work in specific areas of the department, ensures their implementation, prepares reports on their implementation, participates in the development and discussion of theoretical and methodological issues of scientific research and publication of archival documents. ;
- prepares proposals on the main areas and topics of scientific, methodological and archival work in the field of scientific research and publication of documents;
- studies and identifies potential needs of society for retrospective information, prepares thematic publications, collections of documents, participates in the development of topics for scientific research and methodological manuals in specific areas of the department, implements their results in the practice of the department, archive;
- carries out preparation for publication, independently or jointly with other archival and other institutions, of reference books on the composition and content of archival documents, documentary publications on the profile of the archive in accordance with the tasks of cultural and educational work, the needs of the development of Belarusian science and culture, articles, essays, collections and other materials for periodicals;
- coordinates the work of co-authors in preparing publications, organizes their discussion and review;
- conduct work to popularize information about archival documents in periodicals, television, radio and other media;
- keeps records of publications and analyzes the effectiveness of scientific research and publication of archival documents, prepares proposals for improving the work;
- conducts an economic analysis of the department’s work, analyzes the level of compliance with production standards in the department, and prepares proposals based on the analysis;
- develops specific labor standards based on standard time and output standards for the main types of work;

- studies and uses domestic and foreign experience in the field of scientific research and publication of archival documents and implements measures to introduce scientific developments into practice;
- organizes the preparation and holding of meetings, seminars in the specialized areas of the department, participates in the work of scientific and scientific-practical conferences, meetings, seminars;
- participates in the work of the Academic Council, the Directorate, the Expert and Methodological Commission, submits for consideration issues of developing archival affairs in specific areas of the department, prepares materials for discussion, monitors the implementation of decisions made.
